Glad to share my entry for the #MusicDilSe blogging contest by http://www.funkaar.in which was named as the first prize winner recently. My sincere regards to the funkaar team for giving me the honor. It was my 100th post and it just got even more special.
Recognition from fellow bloggers and the veterans gives the much required boost to the irregularly irregular blogs like mine. My fellow bloggers have also graced my blog with the coveted “Blogger Recognition Award” and I am as ecstatic as humbled. All the credit for this triple reverence goes to:
Music is the essence of our lives and it is all around us, adding that little extra spark to an otherwise mundane routine. Music is like the air around us; we may not always see it but can definitely feel it’s presence if we care to focus. Music sometimes confronts us like a tiger roaring in African wilderness while sometimes it teases us like a koel singing on a distant tree. Music need not always be created but it can be discovered in the most unexpected places. Even silence is music to some ears. I wish my life had background music so I could understand what the hell is going on but not everyone is as lucky as Mother Nature herself. Here’s a poem from my archives celebrating Mother Nature’s lullaby…
Love is perpetual and illimitable and cannot possibly be squeezed into a few words (and the sugar coating doesn’t help either). It is the rawest, purest feeling which can only be felt with a pious heart. But we don’t need to figure out what love actually means to embrace it. It will find the longing heart itself. True love is born out of a divine connection between two souls and they need not necessarily be young adults of opposite sex but even parents, siblings and friends can share true love too. The hottest Bollywood theme of parents pitted against the amour has always sparked short circuits in my heart and brain. True love is more often portrayed as a pursuit of your beloved but I feel it is much beyond materialistic endeavors.
Love is not the flirty feeling
Not mere a glittering ring & kneeling
Love is sacrificial, love is ferocious
It is instinctive, limitless and atrocious
Love answers all questions, epic or small
It cannot be explained, yet it explains all.
Love is a feeling of being inexplicably drawn to another person, wishing for his/her happiness without caring for your own self. Love is a gamut of adjectives and a conglomerate of emotions and feelings. It is crazy, complicated and most importantly real and it cannot be hidden where it truly exists. Love may be a lot of things but it is always a positive feeling. It may have a different meaning for each one of us on a scale ranging from infatuation to obsession; where true loves lies somewhere in between but is being mistaken more often than being understood. In this gadget driven virtual world people don’t like love; they only like the idea of love. The squishy toys and splashy gifts exchanged on national romantic days have replaced love for all practical purposes.
True love is eternal, true love never dies,
True love is illimitable; beyond oceans and skies,
I welcome you all to the new year of opportunities, an year of hope; hope to rise and grow, to grow as a person, a writer, a blogger or a poet. I like this time of the year and it is not only because of my birthday but the positivity that thrills me. It is customary to make resolutions for the months to come. I have my own list but I don’t call them resolutions because mew year resolutions are eventually lost into oblivion by February. I may call them anything but I just want to be better than my previous self and I want it to be reflected on my blog. I have a lot of things in my mind for my space on the blogosphere and I hope you like them.
What’s new in 2017?
# A new look and new sections for my blog.
# Will explore new forms of poetry.
# A nerdy twist to blog posts.
# And a new series celebrating true love.
What to expect in my new series: Truelove?
Love is what brought me closer to poetry and it has a special place in my heart. In this series we will try to understand the chemistry of true love or what makes love true. The whats and whys of love. There will be poems, articles, prose, poetry and couplets. Some of my older poems will also make guest appearances. If you think you know love better than anyone else, you are most welcome to enlighten our minds too. Let’s start this wonderful year with love and romance.
If you are looking for some love, hop on and enjoy the ride.
If you cannot find peace within yourself, you will never find it anywhere else. There was a time when I searched every nook and corner of my heart to look for answers, which I realized I knew already. You just have to quieten the mind and soul will speak for itself and reveal all its secrets. We often meet ourselves where we least expect it.
Here are a few of the poems and couplets that churned out of my enlightened (only partially) mind.
फिरते रहे मारे-मारे ;
हर पल पास है हमारे ;
और जी उठेंगे दिलकश नज़ारे ;
सुनहरे सपनों की आड़ में, ज़िंदगी के रंगीन पल, गुप-छुपकर निकल जाते हैं ;
गिर कर उठना तो याद रहता है, भूल जाते हैं…जब लड़खडाकर सम्भल जाते हैं ;
ये पल धुंधली यादें बनकर , होठों पर कभी झिलमिलाते हैं ;
और कभी आँसू बनकर , आँखों में पिघल आते हैं ;
के वक़्त से इस कशमकश में , दिल-ए-नादान मुस्कुरा ही लेता है ;

Music is not only the physical sounds embedded in the life and objects around us but it is also deep seated in the emotions, gestures and feelings. A baby giggling, mother kissing, beloved calling and even looking into your beloved’s eyes without even muttering a word is music to the soul. We must never underestimate the healing power of music. It can heal anything, be it spoiled mood or a crooked soul. Any moment in our lives can be elevated to a different level if we just add music to it. You may try listening to your favorite music on full blast while dancing around like an idiot all around the house for starters and if it doesn’t help you may try singing yourself and Just because you can’t sing doesn’t mean you shouldn’t. And if you are too concerned about looking like an idiot then listing to music in good old ways is always there. No matter what you are feeling, I am sure you can find a song for that particular situation with ease. I feel there is a song for any and every moment and my taste in music ranges from “you need to listen to this” to “I know please don’t judge me”. I personally like the musical quality and rhyme of poems more than any song and here is another one from my archives where a simple thank you from a recovering patient is being described as music to the treating doctor’s ears.
जैसे ख़ुशियों में डूबे कोई दिल, जो था कभी ग़मज़दा ;
रोम-रोम हो जाए स्वस्थ और हर मर्ज़ ले विदा ;
मीठी मुस्कान , काँपती आवाज़, करती शुक्रिया अदा ;
Life and music are so closely spun together that it is impossible to describe one without talking about the other.
Life without music is like…
Facebook without likes,
A racetrack without bikes,
A house without doors,
A lion without roar,
A mind without zeal,
And a soul without feel…
I am writing this blog for #MusicDilSe blogging contest at www.funkaar.in.
And it is a beautiful coincidence that it is my centennial post, cheers to that. Isn’t is music to ears!!
