दोस्तों ने मुझे जीवन में कई बार सम्भाला है | खुशी हो या ग़म, कोई भी पल दोस्तों के बिना ख़ास नहीं बन सकता | मैं बहुत खुशकिस्मत रहा हूँ कि जीवन के हर मोड़ पर मुझे बेहतरीन दोस्तों का साथ मिला है | ये वो एहसास है है जिसे चन्द लफ़्ज़ों में कह पाना मुश्किल है लेकिन अगर मैं अपने दोस्तों की शान में कुछ न कहूँ को मेरा लिखना ही जैसे व्यर्थ होगा…
कहते हैं, अच्छे दोस्त यूँ ही नहीं मिला करते,
पर उसने ये दामन, कुछ इस तरह सजाया है ,
के हर मोड़ पर मिले नायाब दोस्त,
और हर एक में जैसे, वो ख़ुद ही समाया है,
थामा है इन्होंने काँपते मेरे हाथों को,
और ग़म में भी हँसना सिखाया है,
हों ख़ुशियों के उजाले, या गमगीन अंधेरी रात,
मुस्कान ने इनकी, हर पल साथ निभाया है,
के साहिलों के एकांत से गुफ्तगू की कभी ,
तो कभी यारों संग, मझधार में भी घर बनाया है,
न कस्में हैं न वादे हैं, क्या ख़ूबसूरत ये रिश्ता बनाया है,
के लहू से न सही, पर उसने दिल से हमें मिलाया है,
सदके जाऊं इन यारों की यारी पे,
जिन्होनें काली घटाओं को भी , इंद्रधनुष सा सजाया है,

It’s the time of the year to get cozy in your fluffy blankets near simmering fireplaces with a cup of ginger tea in one hand and your favorite book in the other. I am not a psychic but I am sure this is how you would want your holidays to be. Yes, Christmas is round the corner and festivities are about to begin. With the temperatures dropping below usual and winter break on the calendar, isn’t it the best time for book-nerds and bloggers to grab a book and sink in?

Well, I am promoting my own book but let’s not get selfish here and try n do something for the greater good (thumbs up if you caught the harry potter reference).

There are some people in life that make you laugh a little louder, smile a little bigger and live life to the fullest. They balance our tipsy-turvy lives, add a bit of tang and fun, offer a shoulder to cry and most of all, keep the party going. They are the wonderful, the shining and everlasting FRIENDS. Friendship marks our life even more deeply than love. Love may sometimes degenerate into obsession but friendship is never anything but sharing. Sharing love, time, smiles, grief and anything to everything. We may find a friend in our soul mate, kids, parents, colleagues or even boss. What matters is that you find one. And I have been lucky enough to have met wonderful friends almost everywhere I happen to be.

It has been too long to remember when we actually came close but one thing is certain that it was destined to happen. It may have happened when we shared our tiffins in class 3, when we played classroom cricket in class 8, went movies together in class 12, fought for each other, stayed up all night for studying, those 12am birthdays, 4am walks and tea, our marriages, and now even kids. I don’t exactly remember when we became BFFs from just friends but I am glad we did. I have been friends with my schoolmates since class 3 and collegemates from 2003 and now they are a part of every small or big event by default.
As much as I adore friendship I love anything that celebrates it. Movies and TV have been a rock-star in this celebration. I loved the movies Dil Chahta Hai and Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara which showed us the other side of friendship. Harry Potter series is another one that I love for reasons more than just celebrating friendship but I’ll keep it for another post. Another such series is about to start today on Zee TV. Friends come in all shapes and sizes and you may call them with different names, be it amigos, बंधु, मित्र or anything else but each one has a vital role to play. As they say it “हर एक friend ज़रूरी होता है”.

Yes, I have been lucky enough to have met wonderful friends almost everywhere I went and it is tougher than I can imagine naming just one. But adding the oldest clause narrows it down to only two; my best and oldest buddies @Nikhil and @Prannoy or as we like to call ourselves…’Boogies’. I’ve known them before I knew friendship. In fact, we have been together since class four and still catch up with each other on weekends or more often than that. There’s no way how I can put to words the feeling of being able to stick together despite our different paths and professions. You are awesome guys 🙂

Time is not the only way to look at the word oldest, sometimes the bond feels to have been made in heaven, a bond beyond time. I met these gems during my graduation and they just redefined friendship for me. It’s been 13 years and counting but it feels fresh like yesterday and ripe like eternity.
